We can only affirm that it has worked for us and hope that it will work for you But you are free to study in such a way, that it feels natural for you.

In order to understand something like the Pistis Sophia, you can start reading it right away. You will then understand a certain amount on your level. Then you can study more lectures, Kabbalah and the Hebrew alphabet to widen your perspective. If you then go back to the scripture, you will be able to grasp another layer or more details.
