(Latin) adeptus, "One who has obtained." In esotericism, one who has reached the stage of initiation and become a master in the science of esotericism.
Gnosis describes three degrees of adept:
- Adeptus minor: An initiate who has successfully completed the initiation of the sephirah Tiphereth (the fifth serpent of fire).
- Adeptus major: Related to the sephirah Geburah.
- Adeptus exemptus: Related to the sephirah Chesed.
