Arcanum 8

Let us study in this lecture the Eighth Key of Basil Valentine, an Illustration of Viridarium Chymicum.

The Eight Key is a clear and perfect Alchemical allegory of the processes of death and resurrection that inevitably occur in the esoteric preparation of the Philosophical Stone.

The entire inner preparation of the stone and the metallic transmutation are represented in this allegory. The entire human material employed in this work dies, it becomes rotten, corrupted and becomes blackened within the Philosophical Egg, then it becomes marvelously white.

The entire work of the Great Work is found within the Philosophical Egg. The masculine and feminine sexual principles are contained within the egg. Thus, like the fledgling that emerges from the Egg, or like the Universe of Brahma that emerges from the Golden Egg, so too does the Master emerge from the Philosophical Egg.

Eighth Key of Basil Valentine

In the Eighth Key an illustration of the Viridarium Chymicum shows death represented as a corpse, putrefaction represented as crows, the sowing as a humble agriculturalist, the growth as a wheat stalk, and the resurrection by a deceased person who rises from the grave and by an angel that plays the trumpet of the Final Judgment.

We, the Gnostics know that the corpse, death, in the 8th Key represents the two witnesses of the Apocalypse (Revelations, 11: 3-6) that are now dead. By means of alchemical putrefaction, by means of the works of alchemy (represented by the crows) the two witnesses resurrect.

Our motto is Thelema. The entire power is found enclosed within the seed that is symbolized in the wheat stalk. The sacred angel that we carry within plays his trumpet, and the two witnesses rise from the grave.

Two archers, one who hit the bull’s eye and the other who misses, symbolize the two Alchemical interpretations that can occur, the right and the wrong: White Sexual Magic and Black Sexual Magic, Golden Alchemy and Satanic Eroticism.

The ejaculation of the Ens Seminis does not exist in Golden Alchemy, whereas in Satanic Eroticism the ejaculation of the Ens Seminis exists. In India, the Black Yogis (Asura Samphata) ejaculate the Ens Seminis (Sukla) in order to criminally mix it with the feminine “Raja” within the vagina, thereafter; by handling the “Vajroli” in a negative way, they reabsorb this fluid already mixed with feminine Raja. The Black Yogis (Dag Drugpas) believe that through this way they are wisely achieving the union of the solar and lunar atoms in order to awaken the Kundalini, but the outcome of such Black Tantrism is the negative awakening of the Serpent (Kundabuffer). Therefore instead of ascending, the Serpent descends downwards into the atomic infernos of the human being and becomes the Tail of Satan.

This is how these Black Yogis end up separating themselves from their Inner God forever; they become Demons. So, that is Black Magic. Through this way the two witnesses of the Apocalypse do not ever resurrect because this way leads into the abyss and the second death. Therefore, whosoever ejaculates his seminal liquor withdraws himself from his Inner God.


The Yogis who practice the Urdhavareta Yoga (Positive Sexual Magic) do not ejaculate their Ens Seminis. Through this way, the combination of Sukla (solar atoms) and Raja (lunar atoms) is performed within the Philosophical Egg, in other words, within the very Sexual Laboratory of the Alchemist.

Thus, this is how the two witnesses resurrect.

“These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. And if any man will hurt them, fire proceed out of their mouth, and devour their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. These have power to shut heaven (to those who practice sexual magic with seminal ejaculation), that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over (the human) waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the (philosophical) earth (the human organism of fornicators) with all plagues, as often as they will (according with the Law). - Revelation 11: 4-6.

Disposition of the Two Witnesses

The two witnesses are a semi-ethereal, semi-physical pair of sympathetic cords that are entwined along the spinal medulla, forming the Caduceus of Mercury, the sacred Eight, the sign of the Infinite. In the male, the two witnesses part from the right and left testicles and in the female they part from the ovaries. These two witnesses are situated to the right and left sides of the dorsal spine. The two witnesses alternatively ascend from left to right until forming a marvelous knot in that space situated between the two eyebrows, thereafter they continue through the nasal cavities. The two witnesses connect the sexual organs with the nasal cavities. The ganglionic cord that proceeds from the left side is cold, lunar and the ganglionic cord that proceeds from the right side is hot, solar. These two nervous cords are graciously knotted in the coccyx. The Kundalini (Serpent of Brass, Nachash) awakens when the solar and lunar atoms of the seminal system make contact in the Triveni, close to the coccyx.

The sexual act between the male and female initiates has only one objective, that of establishing a contact of opposite poles in order to awaken their Kundalini; because the mercury of secret philosophy is multiplied (the seminal fluid increases) with the sexual contact and when the Ens Seminis is not ejaculated it is transmuted into seminal vapors. These vapors, in its turn, are converted, are bipolarized into positive and negative energies. The positive are solar forces, the negative are lunar forces; these solar and lunar energies rise through the pair of sympathetic cords that are known as the two witnesses- Ida and Pingala.

The medullar canal has an inner orifice that is normally found blocked in ordinary people; however the seminal vapors open up this orifice so that the Sacred Serpent (of Brass, Nachash) can enter there within that medullar canal.

It is necessary to warn the Gnostic-Rosicrucian Brethren that they must learn how to polarize the sacred fire of the Kundalini. Some devotees eat meat everyday and drink alcohol; with the pretext of working in the Great Work they pleasurably enjoy lust, they bestially enjoy carnal passion even when they do not waste their Ens Seminis. Therefore, the outcome of this is that these devotees totally polarize the fire within the chakras of their lower abdomen and lose the happiness of enjoying the ecstasy of the Lotus of One Thousand Petals. Such a Lotus flower is found situated in the pineal gland, which is the crown of saints that shines over the head of the Great Initiates. The Lotus of One Thousand Petals converts us into Masters of Samadhi (Ecstasy).

The Eighth Arcanum encloses the Initiatic ordeals. Each Initiation, each degree, has its ordeals. These Initiatic ordeals get stricter each time, in accordance with the Initiatic degree. The number 8 is the degree of Job. This sign, this number, signifies ordeals and sufferings. These Initiatic ordeals are performed in the superior worlds and in the physical world.

Eighth Card of the Tarot

A woman with a sword in her hand, facing the scale of Cosmic Justice appears in the eighth Arcanum of the Tarot. Indeed, only she (the Priestess) can deliver the sword to the Magician, thus, an Initiate (the Priest) without a woman cannot receive the sword.

There exists the Eve-Venus, the instinctual woman; the Venus-Eve, the noble woman of the home. There also exist Venus-Urania, the woman initiated into the Great Mysteries and finally, we confirm the existence of the Urania-Venus, the female adept, the woman that is self-realized in depth.

The Flaming Fire

The flaming fire opens the Seven Churches of the Apocalypse (seven magnetic centers of the spinal medulla).

We conquer the water with the second center (situated at the height of the prostate/uterus).

We conquer the universal fire with the third center (situated at the height of the navel).

We conquer the air with the fourth center (situated at the height of the heart); the heart is the sanctuary of Sephirah, the Mother of the Sephiroth, the Divine Cosmic Mother.

With the fifth center (situated at the height of the larynx) we receive the sacred ear and dominate the Akasa with which we can preserve the physical body alive (even during the great cosmic nights).

We conquer the magnetic center of the Father with the sixth center (situated between the two eyebrows), thus we become clairvoyant.

We receive the polyvoyance, the intuitive sight, the ecstasy, with the seventh center (situated in the pineal gland).

The woman of the eighth Arcanum of the Tarot has in one hand the scale, and in the other, the sword. It is necessary to equilibrate the forces; it is necessary and urgent to completely sanctify ourselves and to practice the Arcanum A.Z.F. The forces of man and woman are equilibrated with love and with wisdom.

Venus equilibrates the works of Mars.

Mercury equilibrates and performs the works of the Sun and of the Moon, above in the Macrocosmos and below in the Microcosmos human being.

The works of the Sun and of the Moon, the man and the woman are equilibrated by the Mercury of the Secret Philosophy (the Ens Seminis).

Old Saturn balances Thundering Jupiter, the Father of all Gods. This is the Law of Equilibrium.

A Yogi (or a Yogini) cannot self-realize himself without the Arcanum A.Z.F., therefore those who want to exclude the Arcanum A.Z.F. from their whole Yoga are violating the Law of the Eight Arcanum. They are the failures.


The double cross on the wheel of Pythagoras and on the wheel of Ezekiel are pantacles that represent the Eighth Arcanum.

The Letter Chet

Written by a Gnostic Instructor

Pronounced "Het"

In Kabbalah the letter ח Chet symbolizes the motion of Universal Life, the Light of the Ain Soph Aur via the Law of the Cosmic Common Trogoautoegocrat.

Letter ChetChet is the foundation of the property of speech. It is clear that Chet has both expressive and receptive elements for knowledge (Daath) to utter the Verb, the Word of God!

"Whosoever knows, the Word gives power to. No one has uttered it, no one will utter it, except the one who has the Word incarnated."

And out of the ground (Adamah – Akasa, the primordial substance of life) Iod-Havah Elohim made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight (pleasant to the womb), and good for food:

  • עץ החיים - The tree of life (symbol of the spinal medulla and all the Sephiroth) also in the midst of the garden, and
  • עץ ה דעת - The tree of knowledge (symbol of the sexual creative forces) of
  • טוב ורע - Good and evil (Obd and Od, Ida and Pingala, Yin Yang).

The letter Chet is formed when the Prana or Solar Energy that descends from Heaven through the Akasic breath, enters the head and through our Brahmanic cord or the letter Vav, runs down and collides with the solar and lunar currents and with the Christic atoms of our sexual system (life-essence). Thereafter, it returns by means of the letter Zayin through the thirty-three vertebrae until reaching Brahmarandra (top of the head). This is how the life forces of Adam Kadmon, the Iod of the head (the atom of Kether in the root of the nose “Aleph”) that run down from heaven through Vav, the spinal medulla, are connected to the feminine life forces of Havah (Eve) in the sexual organs in order to return through the letter Zayin, and forms in our back (spinal column) the bridge, the Kundalini, the sacred fire or the Serpent of Bronze, the light, the dynamic life forces of the Messiah that unites our physical life essence (Shaddai El Chai - sex) to the superior solar life forces of Kether, the Father, Chaioth Ha Kadosh in the head.

The letter Chet is related to life (the Hebrew words חיים Chaim "life" and חיות Chaiuth "life force" are written with Chet). The life force of the Ain Soph Aur manifests in two levels: “Infernal Life" and "Supernal Life." The Ain Soph Aur in its descent from the Ain Soph downwards into the Ninth Sphere - Yesod becomes, so to speak, "Infernal life” (Shaddai El Chai). From Yesod, the Ain Soph Aur’s creative power continually flows back upwards, generating supernal life in order to enliven the Sephiroth of the tree of life.


The following “is true, not a lie, certain and to be depended upon:

The superior [Eden, the Triple Akasic-life-breath forces “Aleph” that descend (through the letter Vav) from above from the Father, the Iod, Adam Kadmon] agrees with the inferior (Eden, the feminine sexual-life-forces of the Mother that return from Yesod through the letter Zayin); and the lower (Akasic Solar fluid in the Semen) agrees with the higher (Solar fluid, the Akasic Fire from the Ain Soph Aur), to effect that one truly wonderful work (of Creation).

As all (created) things owe their existence to the will of the only one (Ruach Elohim that hovers upon the face of the superior and inferior Akasic-life-forces), so all (inferior or superior) things owe their origin to the one only thing, the most hidden (Son of God, the Christ in substance, Shaddai El Chai or Mercury of Secret Philosophy) by the arrangement (or permutation) of the only (Christonic substance of) God.

The father of that one only thing is the (energy of the) Sun (the Prana that as a Ruach of the Elohim enters through the nostrils into “Vav” the spinal medulla), its mother is the moon (the Akasa, the inferior-life forces of the sexual waters of the Mother, Aima Elohim that return through “Zayin”), the wind (the seminal steam, the outcome of sexual magic) carries it (as Pranic Light, the Messiah, the Son of God) in its belly; but its nurse is (the seed of our sexual organs, where as) a spirituous (Sanctus dwells within the Philosophical Stone, the salt of the) earth (in the sexual matter of the physical body).

That one only thing is (the Mercury, the Azoth of Secret Philosophy) the father of all things in the Universe.

Its (Divine Creative) power remains perfect, after (the life-force of) it (in the letter Vav and the letter Zayin) has been united with a spirituous (Sanctus in the spinal column of the) earth (physical body).

Separate that spirituous (Sanctus or holy fire of the) earth (Shaddai El Chai in the physical body) from the dense (fluid of Semen) or crude (Brute Mercury) by means of (sexual transmutation or Sahaja Maithuna with) a gentle heat (without passion), with much attention (by praying to your Inner Goddess, the Virgin of the World).

In great measure (this Holy Fire of Kundalini or Serpent of Brass [Nachash] ascends from (Havah, our Mother, the sexual feminine-life-forces in Yesod, the sex in) the earth (physical body) up to (Kether our Iod or Father in) heaven and (through the letter “Vav”, the Spinal Medulla, by means of the Venustic Initiation) descends again (as “Aleph” the Triple-Akasic-Breath of life, the Ruach, the Wind of the Elohim carrying a) newborn (child, the Son of God, in its belly) on the earth (the physical body, Malkuth), and the superior (Sephiroth = Kether, Chokmah and Binah) and the inferior (Sephiroth = Gedulah, Geburah, Tiphereth, Netzach, Hod and Yesod) are increased in (the) power (of the Ain Soph Aur).

By this (sexual alchemical permutation) wilt thou partake the glory (Hod, the Astral-Life-Force of the Solar Light, INRI) of the whole world. And Darkness (Ignorance) will flee from thee.

This is (the Ain Soph Aur, the Ray of Okidanokh, Christus-Lucifer, the Carrier of Light, the Sexual Potency, the Cherub) the strength of all Powers. With this (White Tantrism) thou wilt be able to overcome all (Karmic) things and transmute (within your Psyche) all what is fine (from above) and what is coarse (from below).

In this manner (with the life-forces of El-Shaddai the Ruach Elohim above and Shaddai El Chai the Ruach Elohim below) the world was created; the arrangements to follow this road are hidden (within the Spermatozoa and the Ovum, or the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil).

For this reason I am called Hermes Trismesgistus, one in (life) essence (Adamah or Azoth), but three in aspect (Mercury, Salt and Sulfur or Aleph, Mem and Shin). In this trinity (Vav, Zayin and the Serpent of Brass Nachash or the Kundalini that rises in the spinal column) is hidden (the mystery of the letter Chet or the permutation of the life-force of Aleph, Mem and Shin which is) the wisdom (Chokmah or Iod-Havah) of the whole world.

It is ended now, what I have said concerning the effects of the sun (the Ain Soph Aur through Iod-Havah). - The Emerald Tablet.

Tree of Life (Etz Chaim)

The root of the life-essence of a Christified soul is the same life-essence which creates physical bodies. When the life-force of Shaddai El Chai is transmuted, it fuses the soul to God; the Christified soul is perennially nourished from this, so to speak, "infernal life - Yesod." The likeness of God, his reflection, is this light-force or life-force of the soul (Nephesh - Chaiah) which shines below in the waters of Yesod. When this life-force is transmuted and sublimated by means of Zayin, it enlivens the physical body and consequently originates the Second Birth or the creation of a tangible spiritual life in the superior dimensions of Nature and the Cosmos. Both, physical and spiritual lives are related with what Paul of Tarsus refers as the Terrestrial man and the Heavenly man. The heavenly man, the Monad, places (in Yesod, in potency) the life-force (the Ruach) of the Elohim into the Nephesh of the terrestrial man or the infernal or inferior quaternary and by means of his willpower, he must return this life-force inwardly and upwardly in order to put it into activity in the Tree of Life, thus, achieving the self-realization of the Being.

The transmuted sexual energy is the outcome of the union of the Akasic-life-breath forces of Vav that descend from above from the Father, the Iod, the Atom of Kether in the root of the nose and the creative sexual forces of Zayin, Havah, the Mother that return, that ascend from below from her exile in Yesod. This is the secret of the perpetual movement of the life-force of the Ain Soph Aur, the Cosmic-Common Trogoautoegocrat. However, if we do not transmute, if we do not return this life force inwardly and upwardly, the potential-life-force of the Ain Soph Aur, the Ruach of the Elohim remains suspended, without self-realization; because the Ruach of the Elohim contains in potentiality the Spirit of God, the Messiah, Christ, the Savior. This suspended life-force of the Elohim contains the image or reflection of their heavenly or supernal active-life. This is why it is written that in the beginning the Ruach, image or reflection of the Elohim was floating or suspended upon the Akasic waters of Yesod: “And the Ruach Elohim moved upon the face of the waters” - Genesis 1:2

This is why Shaddai El Chai is the living name of the life-power of God in the sex, in Yesod. Shaddai El Chai carries in potency the Divine power of resurrection, but for that we need to be born by the power of the waters below and the Spirit, the Ruach above, moreover, resurrection demands death. Like any seed, we need to die below in order to be born above, if the seed, the grain does not die, then the plant does not grow. This permutation is performed by the Ruach Elohim from above and below.


There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that you are a Rabbi (a Bodhisattva) come from God: for no man can do these miracles that you do, except (his Inner) God be with him.

Jesus answered and said unto him, verily, verily, I say unto you, except a man be born again (into a supernal life), he cannot see the kingdom (the Sephiroth) of God.

Nicodemus said unto him, how can a man be born (into a supernal life) when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto you, except a man be born of water (of Yesod from Below) and of the Spirit (the Ruach, that is, the Akasic Breath of the Elohim Above), he cannot enter into the kingdom of God (the kingdom of the Elohim, the Sephiroth, the Tree of Life).

That which is born (in Malkuth, the world) of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit (the Ruach of the Elohim in the Sephiroth above) is Spirit. (Therefore) Marvel not that I said unto you: You must be born again.

The wind (the Ruach) blows (from above into “Vav”, the spinal medulla) where it is listened (with the chakra Vishuddha that gives the faculty of hearing or comprehension of the Word), and you hear the sound (of his voice) thereof, but (with the ears of the flesh) cannot tell whence it comes, and whither it goes: so likewise every one that is born of the Spirit (Ruach).

Nicodemus answered and said unto him, how can these things be?

Jesus answered and said unto him, Are you a Rabbi of Israel, and do not know these things? Verily, verily, I say unto you, we speak that we do know (through Daath), and testify that we have seen (with the eyes of the spirit); yet you receive not our witness.

If I have told you earthly things (transmutation of the life-force of the waters of Yesod), and you believe not, how shall you believe, if I tell you of heavenly things (from Yesod above)?

And no man has ascended up to (supernal life in) heaven, but he (the Ray of Okidanokh) that came down from heaven (through the letter “Vav” into the waters of Yesod, sexual glands), even (the Ruach Elohim) the Son of Man (Shaddai El Chai) which is (El-Shaddai) in heaven.

And as Moses lifted up the serpent (Ida, Ob, Zayin) in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man (Shaddai El Chai, the life-power of the Ruach Elohim, the Messiah hidden within the waters of Yesod) be lifted up: That whosoever believes (hold dear, hook, love, connect) in him should not perish, but have eternal life (which is supernal life).

For Iod-Havah Elohim so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son (the Ruach Elohim to hover in the waters of Yesod), that whosoever believes (hold dear, hook, love, connect) in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (which is supernal life); for Iod-Havah Elohim sent not his Son (his Ruach Elohim, Shaddai El Chai, to hover) into (the waters of) the world (of Yesod) to condemn the world (of Malkuth); but that the (souls of the) world (of Malkuth) through him (through his ascension or fiery manifestation in their spinal column) might be saved.

He that believes (hold dear, hook, love, connect) on him is not condemned (to the second death in Klipoth): but he that believes not (that does not hold dear, do not hook, do not love, do not connect in him) is condemned (to the second death) already, because he has not believed in the name (the word in potentiality) of the only begotten Son of God (the Ruach Elohim, Shaddai El Chai that moves upon the sexual waters of Yesod).

And this is the condemnation, that the light (of the Ain Soph Aur) is come into the world (of Yesod, Sexual Glands), and men loved darkness (lewdness) rather than light (of scientific chastity), because their (sexual) deeds were evil (bestial).

For every one that does evil (who experiences the filthy orgasm, the abominable spasm of the fornicators) hates the light (of Christ in Shaddai El Chai), neither comes to the light (of Christ in the Sephiroth above), lest his deeds (Kamaduro and Karmasaya that are sins against the Holy Spirit or El-Shaddai) should be reproved; but he that does truth (who transmute the sexual force of Shaddai El Chai) come to the light (through their spinal column), that his (sexual) deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. - John 3: 1-21

Thus, the Vav and the Zayin that form the letter Chet symbolize the man and the woman, Father-Mother, the two columns of the temple Yakin and Boaz, Od and Ob, Adam and Eve. These columns must not be too far apart nor too close together. There should be a space so that the fire of the life-force of love from the Cubic Stone of Yesod can flow between them.

The marvelous permutation of the two levels of life (which are hidden within the letter Chet) within oneself is possible by means of the sexual act, when performed as a sacrament on the altar of the Perfect Matrimony without the spasm or the abominable orgasm of the fornicators. This is how by touching yet not touching, the Ruach Elohim in the waters of sexuality of the couple, Adam and Eve, man and woman continue in concealment the creation of Iod-Havah Elohim in the superior worlds and reveals onto the soul the hidden wisdom of the Tree of Life.

Chaioth Ha Kadosh

And Iod-Havah Elohim said, Let the waters (of Yesod) bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life, and fowl (souls) that may fly (or hover) above the earth (as the Ruach of the Elohim, the Chaioth Ha Kadosh, the Holy Creatures) in the open firmament of heaven. - Genesis 1

And the creative sexual waters of Yesod released abundantly the Haishim (the children of ha-shem) that have life when man and woman uttered the word, the name ‘IAO’ in Daath.
