There are proven, effective ways to protect yourself and your home from negativity, and they begin with discovering and changing the vulnerabilities in your mind.
The most important spiritual defense is within you. When you are working on yourself daily, implementing the three factors (death of harmful actions, birth of virtuous actions, and sacrifice for others), not only do you acquire knowledge of your weaknesses so you can change them, you also attract protection from positive forces.
"All things, all circumstances that occur outside ourselves on the stage of this world, are exclusively the reflection of what we carry within. With good reason then, we can solemnly declare that the “exterior is the reflection of the interior.” When someone changes internally—and if that change is radical—then circumstances, life, and the external also change." —Samael Aun Weor, Treatise of Revolutionary Psychology
Stated simply, if we have conflict or problems around us, it is because we have them within us. If we change what is within us, our circumstances will then change. That is why all real change begins inside.

When you have started to work on yourself psychologically, then you need to protect where you live.
Here are some tips for spiritual defense at home.
Keep yourself and your clothing clean and fresh.
"The devotee must bathe daily, to assure cleanliness." —Samael Aun Weor, The Yellow Book
A dirty, messy home attracts parasites and negative influences.
Wash your bedsheets and towels often, even daily when possible.
Take out the trash regularly. The trash in your home may not smell, and may not look like much, but it has a multidimensional aspect. Certain types of trash can make you psychologically sick or attract astral parasites. This is an easy way to defend yourself: do not let trash accumulate.
Do not allow dirty dishes to fester in the sink, or old food decomposing anywhere in your home. These rotting substances are beacons to parasites. Get rid of them.
If possible, do not wear your outdoor shoes in your home. Shoes that you wear while out of your home will bring back all the filthiness of the world. Establish a place in the entry of your home where outdoor shoes are kept. Not wearing shoes indoors will reduce the dirty, negative substances in your home.
When people with filthy habits come in your home, they also bring parasites and negative energy. Be aware of it, and be prudent with who you bring into your home. Sometimes, we may have a family member or roommate that we must live with; in such cases, do your best to keep things clean, and take advantage of the circumstances to learn patience, humility, and love for others.
Beauty inspires us towards serenity, virtue, and divinity. True beauty is not found in wealth or possessions, but in virtue and in nature. A fresh flower brings more beauty than expensive furniture. A humble, small, clean, well-kept home is more beautiful and serene than a mansion filled with the latest plastic or electronic trinkets. No matter your economic situation, you can make your home a beautiful temple.
"Flowers, perfumes, symbolic pictures, and beautiful music contribute to creating an environment filled with wisdom and love." —Samael Aun Weor, The Yellow Book
The way you organize and decorate your home affects your mind and your spiritual life: strive for beauty and divinity in all things. Create a home that strengthens your spiritual life.
Use good quality incense everyday.
"The devotee must purify the bedroom daily with the smoke of special aromatic substances... A good incense attracts the great masters whom we need for our work." —Samael Aun Weor, The Perfect Matrimony
There are two important daily uses of incense.
Do regular cleansings of the environment in order to drive away impurities and negativities, such as incubi, succubi, and astral larvae. Whenever leave your house to go anywhere, you are picking up astral larvae. Astral larvae are like insects. They are little parasites in the internal planes that feed on filth. There are astral larvae everywhere. They cling to your vital body to take energy. Sometimes, that is why we get sick or have a bad mood.
We need to cleanse ourselves and our homes regularly by using incense. Once per week, once per month — whatever you think is necessary — burn sulfur, asafoetida, benzoin, juniper, sage, rue, or camphor. You can even rotate these periodically, since each one has different effects. Learn more about cleansing incense here.
When your home is clean physically and spiritually, use any other kind of incense that you like to perfume your house. Frankincense, sandalwood, spikenard, rose... there any many beautiful scents that fill your home with an environment of beauty and love. For this, you can use incense or essential oils.
An altar acts as a beacon and as a storage center for energy. When you have an altar in your house, and you meditate and do practices there regularly, you charge the environment with energy.
Your altar should inspire you. Find imagery and a style that fills you with happiness.

Elementals (the sentient beings within plants) can do a lot to help you, protect you, and defend you. Some significant plants to learn about include aloe, maguey (agave), mustard seeds, angels trumpet, pine trees, cedar trees; all of those are explained in Esoteric Medicine and Practical Magic and in Igneous Rose.
