QUOTE (Plato) Our music was once divided into its proper forms...It was not permitted to exchange the melodic styles of these established forms and others. Knowledge and informed judgment penalized disobedience. There were no whistles, unmusical mob-noises, or clapping for applause. The rule was to listen silently and learn; boys, teachers, and the crowd were kept in order by threat of the stick. . . . But later, an unmusical anarchy was led by poets who had natural talent, but were ignorant of the laws of music...Through foolishness they deceived themselves into thinking that there was no right or wrong way in music, that it was to be judged good or bad by the pleasure it gave. By their works and their theories they infected the masses with the presumption to think themselves adequate judges. So our theatres, once silent, grew vocal, and aristocracy of music gave way to a pernicious theatrocracy...the criterion was not music, but a reputation for promiscuous cleverness and a spirit of law-breaking. Nice to hear another Master talk about music. -------------------- "By attacking the error, we will provoke the hatred of those who err." - Samael Aun Weor
"When religion becomes artificial, art has a duty to rescue it. Art can show that the symbols which religions would have us believe literally true are actually figurative. Art can idealize those symbols, and so reveal the profound truths they contain." - Richard Wagner |

Here is an audio of John Taverner's view of Mozart. Don't know if John Taverner is considered gnostic or not as I don't know his biography too well. But I do know he is an orthodox christian and discusses mysticism of Mozart's music in this video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8Dwmsq-ehU Thought I'd share that. |

What pieces are used in Glorian's video, Sex: The Secret Gate to Eden? Curious I think I heard some film music in there. I think I heard Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. I'd have to watch it again. Don't know if that helps, not sure if you recognized any yourself? |

You just inspired me to listen to one of my favorites: Tchaikovsky, Piano concerto No 1, great performance. Another Tchaikovsky piece that many like to hear around Christmas: The Nutcracker

Someone mentioned earlier in this thread about seeing colors with the music, I forget what that's called...oh I found it! Synesthesia. I know Scriabin had that , don't remember who else. |

What do you people think about andrea bocelli? http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=91QyVSV1TgE&...feature=related To emotional? And this one? http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=yYl0NoLztEc I've read that there is a lot of bad music, so I want to be sure. I don't think you can classify it the same you would classify rap, however, it seems a bit romantic, and furthermore, it doesn't seem to have an objective. Let us examine this piece: http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=H9CYBdltAJk If we listen to it passively while paying attention to something else, it can just sound like someone rolling up and down the keyboard with their fingers... However if we dive into listening to it and pay ATTENTION to it... to each and every note, on a higher volume to help our attention... it certainly begins to sing a different song. Meanwhile, the first link you posted seems rather easy for passive listening, and doesn't seem to speak on quite the same level while devoting such attention to it. -------------------- ![]() |
