I am involved in the Anthroposophical Foundation Studies course at the Rudolph Steiner Centre, and it's facinating to observe how much it is like the Gnosis of Samael Aun Weor...it's almost entirely Gnostic!
Everything Steiner says is what Samael says but with a little more wording. Steiner hardly touched on the matter of the esoteric sexuality, but nevertheless his contributions to Medicine, Agriculture, Education, Architecture, the Arts, Economics, Social Issues and so many other esoteric things cannot be overlooked. The Spiritual Science he developed was based on his own investigations and experiences, which he always emphasized and encouraged in others. It's so interesting for instance (in "How to Know Higher Worlds") to hear Steiner talk about Imagination, Inspiration and Intuition back in the late 1800's and early 1900's when he first introduced those topics as requesites for initiation! It surely helps when coming to those same points when reading Samael. Rudolph Steiner was born in 1861 and died in 1925, and I sincerely feel that studying Anthroposophy and his works will help enrich and enliven the lives of everyone. PS: (Please check out http://www.rsarchive.org) -------------------- In 1882 Richard Wagner said:
"I know only one composer that approaches Beethoven, and that is Bruckner". |

Rudolph Steiner first introduced The Seven Life Processes in 1916. These processes happen all the time within us but we are usually unconscious of them. They describe what happens on the physical and non-physical levels but are also related to our learning. They are as follows:
LIFE PROCESS~~~~~~~LEARNING PROCESS I. Breathing-------------------Observing II. Warming-------------------Relating III. Digesting-----------------Digesting IV. Secreting-----------------Individualizing V. Sustaining-----------------Practicing VI. Growing-------------------Growing VII. Reproducing-------------Creating For more information read "The Riddle of Humanity". |

My daughter is on a Steinerschool, so I know a little about his doctrine through her, and I agree with you. But what I like most is all the practical things she brings home. The songs, the art, the music, certain exercises. They learn really beautiful songs and they have a marvellous musical teacher.
Yesterday she showed me this euritmic exercise they learned. They must form with their bodies all the vowels when carrying little candles on their hands in perfect concentration. After that they had to walk a cross-shaped figure, like a dance. Every year they study a different mythological history. They begin with fables and fairytales, and they work through all the different traditions. Last year for instance the Norse mythology, the Edda, and this year they learn a lot about eastern filosofy. Also they perform the ancient drama's, for instance they go to the beach to play how Michael defeated the dragon. For the ones with children I can highly recommend these schools. Also, if there is no school nearby, there are a lot of books on the market with specific instructions, stories, music, etc., to use at home. It is so good to see how she learns all these things in such a natural way. A lot different than myself, starting just recently and totally confused and worn out by all the (mis)information and experiences from all the past years. |

Yes, these schools are called the Waldorf schools and can be found all over the world. Waldorf Education is "teaching from the inside out."
On a side note, I came across a very interesting quote when reading through a brief biography on Steiner's life and work. In a letter to Anthroposophical Society members from his deathbed in 1924, he makes this observation: "Gravity in the face of any being is the reflection of the cosmos in that being; a smiling countenance is the expression of that which shines forth from the being itself into the world." -------------------- In 1882 Richard Wagner said:
"I know only one composer that approaches Beethoven, and that is Bruckner". |

Certainly!
Often when looking at pictures of Samael, Blavatsky, Steiner and others they usually look grave and serious, I sometimes wondered if they were angry, or unhappy. But when I read this quote, I totally understood why! |

Right, I have thought the same thing.
I'm just having a little trouble comprehending the quote. I'm not sure how the first part (grave countenance) relates to the second part (smiling countenance). Is the quote lauding the virtues of both, or what? |

Meditate on the mystery contained in that quote, and then you'll know why.

PS: (Please check out http://www.rsarchive.org) Hi Ryan, I too have study Anthroposphy here in Australia, and have found many similarities to Gnosis. Samael Aun Weor, always spoke highly of Steiner and refered to him as a authentic Rosicrucian Gnostic and a great clairvoyant, he also said that many initiates did not have permission to teach the mysteries of sex. Steiner could only say so much in that era, to talk about sex publically in the early 1900's was a tabboo, even kissing in public was frowned upon. I have found that Steiner explains many topics about the arts and education that I find Samael does not go into the same depth. I have been told that Litelantes said the Samael only gave 1% of his teaching!! And how hard is it for us to understand that 1%! I recommened studying Steiner and Blavatsky, they were the pre-currsers of the incarnation of the Archangel Samael. The Angel Samael, I believe influeneced many masters before him to prepare for his incarnation into the earth. |

I recently came upon a quote by Steiner which I think is quite important.

Found a site with many of Rudolf Steiner's books in pdf form. I've been warned that some of the books by Samael Aun Weor that are in pdf are not complete, but these seem to be. Perhaps someone can verify this. Otherwise it seems to be a good resource.

Hey Leon, thanks so much for that Samael quote which mirrors Steiner's!
I had read that in one of the books quite a while back but couldn't remember which book it was in, even after looking and checking the quote still evaded me! I actually wanted to find it so that I could post it right under the Steiner quote (just what you did!)...so thanks for reading my feelings! "Regarding the Luciferic Spirits: Max Heindel and Steiner mistakenly believed that they were the stragglers of life, a wave between Angels and Men; they believed that their abodes were upon the planet Mars (and one thousand other stupidities of the sort). Thus, if our disciples believe in these mistaken assertions of Max Heindel and Steiner, they will eventually confusedly consider that it is okay to become a demon. " ~Samael from Initiatic Preparation - 6 It sounds like Samael has some issues with Steiner to me.... -------------------- love and laughter

Oh, he definitely corrected the mistakes of past occultists, but that does not mean we should "throw the baby out with the bath water."
