From May 30 to June 4, 2017, students from all over the world will gather at Padme Samye Ling, a beautiful traditional Buddhst temple in upstate New York, in order to further develop our skills in meditation. Whether you are a total beginner or have years of experience in meditation, this retreat will help you grow.
Our goal is for each student to learn how to meditate to acquire new information, primarly in order to understand the causes of suffering and how to change them.
As there are limited accommodations and our retreats always fill to capacity, priority must be given to those who have not attended our retreats previously and to participants in our Distance Learning Program. Attending students who have been studying the teachings for some time will be asked to maintain silence throughout the retreat as a way to deepen their practice even further.
Padma Samye Ling Retreat Center and Monastery (the name means "Inconceivable Lotus Land") is located in Delaware County in upstate New York. Set near the top of a mountain in the western region of the Catskill mountains, the outstanding facilities are contained within five hundred acres of forests, meadows, and natural springs.
Padme Samye Ling is a faithful recreation of Samye, the first Buddhist monastery built in Tibet more than 1250 years ago. That ancient temple was made possible by the remarkable master Padmasambhava, and also marked the beginning of the original school of Tibetan Buddhism. Filled with immense murals, statues, and a powerful energetic presence, this temple is a truly awe-inspiring place to meditate. Glorian is honored to be the only outside group allowed access to this temple.
A common area and dining hall are contained in the newly constructed Sangha House.
There is a store providing a wide array of Tibetan art and incense. Additionally, Glorian Publishing will offer a complete selection of books by Samael Aun Weor, plus incense, posters, and other items.
Accommodations are provided in the immaculate, newly built Bodhichitta Inn, which includes dormitory rooms and patron apartments. There are also camping sites on the monastery grounds.
To promote greater camaraderie, participants will stay in the shared rooms of the Bodhicitta Inn, which includes dormitory style rooms. Each room has comfortable single beds (4 beds in a room). Bathrooms are shared.
There are only a few rooms for couples, so sign up fast.
With 500 acres of land to choose from, your camping experience with surely be a memorable one. You will have to bring your own tent and sleeping bag, and will have access to bathroom and shower facilities.
If you prefer to find a place to stay offsite, we also offer a commuter package for access to the retreat events.
PSL is located in Delaware County in upstate New York. The closest airports are Binghamton (one hour) and Albany (two hours). From the airport, transportation is by rental car, taxi or bus. We will set up an optional carpool group once we get closer to the retreat but this is not guaranteed since it depends on others. It is best for you try and figure out your own way of getting to the retreat.
The focus of the retreat will be on effective meditation, thus the majority of the retreat program will be meditation and supporting practices.
Our meditation program is based on the teachings available on gnosticteachings.org, and are firmly established on the foundation of thousands of years of proven techniques taught in meditation traditions worldwide, especially Tibetan Buddhism and esoteric Christianity. Nevertheless, the meditation techniques we use are entirely fact based and scientific, requiring you to test and prove each step yourself. Ultimately, it is the instructor's goal to help you become a self-reliant meditator, capable of investigating any subject in meditation for yourself.
