This is the account of how the wholeness was in suspense, in calm, in silence; motionless wholeness, still, and empty the vastness of space. This is the first account, the first narrative. There was neither man, nor animal, birds, fishes, crabs, trees, stones, caves, ravines, grasses, nor forests; there was only the broad vastness of space. There, the surface of the earth had not appeared. There, were only the calm sea and the great vastness of space. There, nothing was brought together, nothing that could make a sound, nor anything that might move, or tremble, or that could hum in space. There, nothing was standing; only the calm water, the placid, solitary, and tranquil sea. Nothing existed. There was only immobility and silence in the darkness, in the night. Only the Creator, the Maker, *Tepeu, Gucumatz, the Forefathers, were in the water, surrounded by light. They were hidden under green and blue feathers, and were therefore called Gucumatz; innately great sages, great thinkers. In this manner space existed, and also the heart of Heaven, which is the name of God, and thus is how He is called. - Popol Vuh (The Mayan Bible)

* In Maya Quiche, Tepeu means the "Governor", and Gucumatz (Kukulcan, in maya) means "Feathered Serpent", which is Quetzalcoatl amongst the Toltecs and Aztecs.

It is true, no lie, certain and to be depended upon: the superior agrees with the inferior, and the inferior agrees with the superior, to effect that one truly wonderful work. As all things owe their existence to the will of the only one, so all things owe their origin to the one only thing, the most hidden by the arrangement of the only God. The father of that one only thing is the sun, its mother is the moon, the wind carries it in its belly; but its nurse is a spirituous earth. That one only thing is the father of all things in the universe. Its power remains perfect, after it has been united with a spirituous earth. Separate that spirituous earth from the dense or crude by means of a gentle heat, with much attention. In great measure ascends from the earth up to heaven and descends again, newborn on the earth, and the superior and the inferior are increased in power.
 By this wilt thou partake the glory of the whole world. And Darkness will flee from thee. This is the strength of all powers. With this thou wilt be able to overcome all things and transmute all what is fine and what is coarse. In this manner the world was created; the arrangements to follow this road are hidden. For this reason I am called Hermes Trismesgistus, one in essence, but three in aspect. In this trinity: is hidden the wisdom of the whole world.

Zohar: "the wise man's eyes are in his head" (Ecclesiastes 2:14). He inquires: it says, only in his head: are the eyes of a man in any other place, are they in his body, or in his arm, that the wisest man of all is letting us know!? but the meaning in the scripture is surely this, that we were taught a person should not walk more than four cubits with an uncovered head. Why is this? It is because the Shechinah dwells upon his head, and any wise man's eyes and thoughts are in his head, that is, upon that which dwells and remains on his head, which is the Shechinah.

Moreover, the king's daughter, the Shechinah, used to be Iod on top of Hei Vav Hei that are included in the patriarchs, first Hei in Abraham, who is Chesed – the Lion, and second Hei in Isaac, who is Geburah – the Ox; Vav was included in Jacob, who is Tiphereth – the eagle.


When the King heard bad news he flung the crown from off his head. What was, the Shechinah, Iod on top of Iod Hei Vav Hei, when Iod was on top, reverted to the permutation Hei Vav Hei Iod, where Iod is below. For that reason David said: "The stone which the builders rejected has become the head stone of the corner. This is Iod, Hei Vav Hei-'s doing" (Psalm 118:22-23).
