| Upaya |
(Sanskrit, “skillful means”) In Mahayana Buddhism, upaya summarizes the first five paramitas (conscious attitudes), and are therefore “methods” or attitudes of upright action. In Tantric scriptures, upaya refers to sexual transmutation (Tibetan: sbyor-ba). "The Tibetan Vajrayana school is different; and although its two principal pillars are also “Vision and Action,” [prajna and upaya] it is unquestionable that it places special solemnity on the latter [upaya], and tirelessly struggles to lead its devotees to the Ninth Sphere (sex). It is not irrelevant to assert in this chapter that the aspirants of the Mahayana School truly long for and have an infinite yearning for direct experience of the Illuminating Void [prajna]. We are in no way exaggerating if we state with a certain fervor that disciples of the Vajrayana school labor tenaciously in the “forge of the Cyclops” (sex) [upaya] with the intelligent objective of achieving Innermost realization of the Illuminating Emptiness [prajna]." - Samael Aun Weor, The Mystery of the Golden Blossom |
| Urania |
(Greek: Ourania) One of the nine Muses of Greek Mythology. Urania is related to astronomy or to the celestial realms, the heavens. |
| Uranus |
Chaldean for Ur = “fire,” Anas = “water.” The planet of sexuality. |
| Urdhva Padmasana |
("Above Lotus Pose") From Swami Sivananda: "Perform Sirshasana. Slowly bend the right leg and keep it on the left thigh and keep the left leg on the right thigh. You must do this very carefully and slowly. If you can stand in Sirshasana for more than 10 or 15 minutes, then you can attempt this. Otherwise you will have a fall and injure your legs. A gymnast, who can balance on the parallel bars on the ground, can do this. The benefits of Sirshasana can be realised from this Asana." |
| Urdhvareta |
(Sanskrit; urdhva means "upwards") 1. "In India, sexual magic (Arcanum A.Z.F.) is known by the Sanskrit term “Urdhvareta.” People who practice the Arcanum A.Z.F. in India are called Urdhvareta yogis. The Great Arcanum is found in a Hindustani book entitled Secrets of Yoga. The author is a yogi from Southern India." - The Yellow Book

| Urdhvareta Yoga |
(Sanskrit; alternately oordhvareta) "A Yogi always directs his attention to the accumulation of this divine energy by unbroken chastity. In Yoga, it is called Urdhvaretas. An Urdhvareta Yogi is one in whom the seminal energy has flown upwards into the brain as Ojas Sakti. There is now no possibility of the semen going downwards by sexual excitement." - Swami Sivananda, Practice of Brahmacharya "The great Yogi-Avatar Sri Lahiri Lahasaya was called to the Initiation by the immortal Babaji when he already had a spouse. Thus, this is how the Yogi-Avatar was Self-realized. In Hindustan, Sexual Magic is known by the Sanskrit term Urdhvareta and the yogis who practice it are named Urdhvareta Yogis. Authentic yogis practice Sexual Magic with their spouse. There are two types of brahmacharya (sexual abstinence), solar and lunar. The solar type is for those that have performed the Second Birth. The lunar type of brahmacharya is that absurd sexual abstinence that serves only to produce filthy, nocturnal sexual pollutions with all of its fatal consequences... The yogis who practice Urdhvareta Yoga (positive Sexual Magic) do not ejaculate their Ens Seminis." - The Esoteric Course of Kabbalah |
| Uriel |

The man would then go trembling before his Master and complete repent." - The Zohar 28 Tzav 19 |
